Olive S. Oyango, President, MBA, MSOT, OTR/L
Olive is an occupational therapist in Portland, Oregon. She was born and raised in Kenya and immigrated to the United States when she was 19 years old. Her professional career began in Public Relations and Marketing for a regional firm in Houston, Texas. She also has an extensive background in communications, event planning, and project and logistics/operations management, having made her bones working for a national media company - formerly Clear Channel Communications [now known as iHeart Media], after earning an MBA in Management from the University of Houston. Olive has long been a perpetual learner/student, and following the 2008 economic down-turn, she once again re-invented herself and went back to school. She obtained her Master of Science in Occupational Therapy from the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, WA in May 2014. Since then, she has worked at the preeminent inpatient rehabilitation facility in the Pacific Northwest. As an occupational therapist at the Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon (RIO), Olive works with survivors of various neurological injuries, including, but not limited to strokes, traumatic brain injuries, Guillain Barre Syndrome, Parkinson’s Disease, Multiple Sclerosis, and Spinal Cord Injuries. Her clinical experience also extends to people with limb loss – both from traumatic events, as well as disease processes. Outside of work, Olive fancies herself to be an amateur writer – anything from well-crafted e-mails to short stories. During her first round of graduate school, she worked as a student researcher for her mentor, and helped proofread, edit, and craft the index for his book: The Baha’i: The Religious Construction of a Global Identity. As a minority in OT graduate school, she wrote an essay touching on some of the difficulties of assimilating into American life as a first-generation immigrant. Beyond that, she identifies as an empath, introvert, homebody, and, definitely, a dog lover…of ALL the dogs!! She has a penchant for small poodle-mix types and has three rescues of her own. Still, that doesn’t stop her from spending an inordinate amount of time scouring rescue organizations for pups to convince unwitting friends to adopt…she KNOWS they’d frown on her adding to her three! Perhaps her most important identity (in addition to friend), Olive prides herself on being Auntie Olive to her own nieces and nephews, as well as a myriad of friends' children whom she considers family.

Claire Bemis, MSW, LCSW
Claire has been working in the mental health field for 18 years. She is originally from Connecticut where she received her Bachelors and Masters Degrees from the University of Connecticut. Claire found her passion in Social Work especially in the Mental Health realm. Claire has been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker for over a decade, working alongside children and families, adults and now specializing in Perinatal Mental Health as well as Trauma. While working with children and families, Claire regularly saw the impact that unsupported mental health can have on an entire family unit and she also witnessed the value in engaging caregivers through non judgmental and healing therapy spaces. Supporting caregivers in getting their emotional needs met has a long lasting and generational impact. Claire went into private practice after becoming a mother herself and wanting to focus her work on perinatal mental health, an incredibly underserved population. She has supported individuals and families through experiences such as infertility, loss, pregnancy and into parenthood. When not working, Claire can be found outdoors with her family, having dance parties with her kids and finding space and time to connect with friends through food and art.
