Megan G. Chen.  MA, OTR/L, QMHP

Megan is a licensed occupational therapist, qualified mental health professional, creative director and founder of Kind Heart Arts. She has been working in healthcare for over a decade specializing in facilitating adaptation to neurological injuries. For nine years she was a primary occupational therapist on the spinal cord injury team at The Rehabilitation Institute of Oregon where she honed her skills working with individuals and family systems adjusting to unexpected, traumatic life circumstances.

Megan developed an interest in maternal mental health when she was in graduate school and the passion never went away. To complete her masters degree she built her thesis project around how occupational therapy can serve new mothers. Now she understands it isn't just after having baby that people need more support - the entire journey from beginning to end is incredibly intense. We deserve attention and support through the process of becoming a parent, especially if things aren't going according to plan. Megan approaches working with clients by meeting them where they are at and knowing there is no one theoretical approach that will be the best fit for everyone. She has a practical approach to therapy and life; she recognizes the value of talk therapy and also making a plan and getting into action. Drawing from a holistic Person, Environment, Occupation approach Megan also incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, mindfulness, internal family systems, motivational interviewing and always approaches therapy as a therapist/client collaboration.

Megan is a volunteer coordinator for Postpartum Support International and is working towards getting the Perinatal Mental Health Certification. She has the lived experience of unexplained infertility, multiple miscarriages, TFMR, IUI, IVF, same sex conception and loss of a parent.

As Kind Heart Arts grows, we will have more therapists with their own unique styles to offer. If one therapist does not match the therapy style you are looking for, we encourage you to check back with us for more options.
